Anyone here know how to fix a 50-year old pocket-watch?

…or know a good shop I can take my wedding-gift from my wife?

Kevin,

After years of it sitting around I wound it up, which felt normal, but the hands aren’t moving. It was like that the last time I tried it years ago.

Now it started working again. I can’t explain it. But I will keep you in mind for if it quits again.

It likely could use a thorough cleaning and new lubrication. I may be that the old oil had congealed and just free up, or you might have a mechanical issue like broken jewel or pivot. I suspect Kevin would suggest a cleaning and inspection even though it’s currently running. Particularly if you don’t know the last time it was serviced.

That is a common mechanical fault with the tension of the cannon pinion. Easily sorted, but the watch definitely needs service. Let me know if you decide to do it.

I have an antique pocket watch that needs the lens replaced. Is there a place I can take it to that you would recommend?
