Any Welding Workshops / Classes coming up?

Hey y’all… I just noticed a PM sent to the DMS Facebook page with the following question:

Hello! Just wondering if you offer any welding workshops in the near future?? Thank you

I skimmed through the messages here and on the calendar requests; and I don’t see any mention of any welding classes or workshops coming up. Does anyone have any planned? If so, please let me know.

Thanks!

I’m thinking of doing some stuff starting next year. Holidays have been kinda insane.

It’ll probably be something akin to the blacksmith folks.

I can’t cram all I know about welding into a tasty hour long course.

Same as Andrew here. Holidays are really busy, but I will definitely schedule another welding class soon. Sorry I can’t set an exact time yet but will after the the new year for sure.

I would be interested in this class, if offered.

I’m also interested in this.

Same here. Watching the schedule but nothing appears forthcoming. :frowning:

Yes give us time we are working on scheduling.

Danny, maybe next Sunday?

That sounds good. I’ll plan a stick or MIG class a week (maybe two because of open house) after that. Looks like I might be out of town that Sunday so probably won’t be able to go myself, but I’m sure it’s going to be great.

As you wrote in your email, yes. I am in agreement with Ed. A safety class would be a great place to start things off and it lets people come to the welding class ready to do just that. WELD!

I think Ed sent you a tweaked version of my welding safety and concepts class outline.

What do you think of putting something out on the metal shop thread about “things to bring with you to class?”

We can provide consumables and some safety gear like glasses, but keeping boots stocked for everyone is kind of crazy. Not even any way to tell sizes!

Alright it’s a agreed then, we’ll make the safety class a prerequisite for the welding classes. If we don’t we’ll never have a chance to teach actual welding like the last class I taught where the majority of time was spent on safety. You know metal shop is a different beast where it’s so easy to get injured compared to some of the others. As far as what to bring, I wrote some things in the description of my last class.

“Please note before attending, dress appropriately. Long pants/sleeves and leather footwear with rubber soles. No open toed footwear. No plastics in the work area, i.e. nylon, rayon, etc. Wear cotton/canvas/denim/leather instead. If you have long hair, tie it up or wear a hat. No drinks/liquids in the welding area”

Feel free to use this or add what you like. Also I had about 30 people attend my class which was way too many for everyone to get their chance to practice. This time I’ll only have 10.

I’d like to attend these welding classes too. I’ll keep an eye out for them, or else send me an email when you know more about the class… Thanks!

I really don’t mind how massive the safety classes are since it’s mostly lecture.

I think the more you can fit in there the better.

I’m interested in the welding classes too. Will be watching for the safety class on the schedule.

Sooooo.

Just making sure, I’m teaching tomorrow, yes???

Hey Andrew, did you get it on the calendar in time for people to find out? The more people we can get in there the better I would say.

I don’t know how to work the calendar.

I could still do it, but if you’ll point me in the right direction I can reschedule it for next Sunday.

Just Events – Dallas Makerspace and press the “Add Event” button. That puts it in a queue for someone to approve.

So…where are the classes on the calendar? I’m asking because I have a member that showed up after paying for a class, but to my knowledge there was nothing going on today? Any insight would be most appreciated.
