Is there an attorney in our membership that would be willing to help me make a defense for a traffic citation.
I’m not one, and don’t know of one, but I would advise you to call the Texas Bar Association for a referral. Many attorneys will provide you with a free consultation on the first visit, if you tell them the Bar Association referred you to them.
There are a few attorneys that are members at DMS. I have ran into some at DMS that I know professionally outside the space. However, they ALL seem to exhibit the same behavior while at the space… They will not engauge in conversations regarding legalities of anything. Even when they know the members may be wrong about the premise of their discussion. It can be concluded from their collective behavior, they do not want to be identified as attorneys at DMS.
TL;DR
You may not have ANY that spring forward willing to help with your endeavor.
…X…
I think it would only be fair to point out that this is likely because anything they DO say might be construed as advise for which they might then become liable. It may not be just that they don’t want to be id’d,but that they aren’t there to work, let alone end up as a defendant inadvertently. They all MIGHT be unhelpful assholes as well, but we should not use that brush on this scene. …
was the video clip really necessary ?
really ?
aw c’mon. It’s the only work Shia can get these days…
I have to say that I have been at dms for less than a year
and find the landscape surprisingly unfriendly at times
The “Be excellent to each other” concept eludes some it seems.
That’s teh social dynamic of a large organization, not everyone will have the social skills or natural friendliness. I have encountered it, but if you take it with a grain of salt and just enjoy your time working on projects, it makes your outlook better.
And yes unofficial rule #2 of the makerspace: Don’t take legal advise from anyone at the makerspace.
how does this square with excellence with one another
I noticed a different thread regarding finances
I spend time and effort when possible to promote dms to people and organizations I am affiliated with
last week I helped with a tour of my son and a friend that had an interest in dms
but honestly if that is going to result in them getting treated this way in a forum
that I need to rethink the effort and my association with dms
I consider the posting of the video clip unnecessary and troll like
I would like to take this issue up with the board
what is my next step ?
What are you even talking about?
I think he took offense with the gif.
Why? I don’t know.
If you want to file a formal complaint, send an email to [email protected].
I don’t believe that the comment about being excellent with each other was a criticism of you.
“Is there an attorney in our membership that would be willing to help me make a defense for a traffic citation”
I’m a new guy here too and I also promote the DMS to others and have given nickel tours to some friends - but I don’t go to to the DMS hoping to find help with a traffic ticket, divorce etc. Google can help you there.
On the other hand I’ve found that most folks at the DMS have been friendly and helpful.
The posted gif was great too!
The forum / board here is like any other - you get good, bad and humourous replies and some others - you just need some common sense.
Yeah, every time I’ve had a traffic ticket I get flooded with letters from attorneys wanting to take care of it for me, which I know I most likely will have to pay them more than the ticket. Internet trolling isn’t really excellent but some people take offense to some jokes. But yes I try to avoid legal consultation with (names redacted) lawyers at the space, you’re better off just paying the traffic ticket and let the city of Dallas spend that quota money on donuts or whatever they do with it.
I don’t think doxxing people on Talk is appropriate.
Didn’t mean to point anyone out specifically, I edited the post to protect their identity as a lawyer (patent attorney).
Of the three attorney’s I know of that are members, I believe all three specialize in patent law. And one at least advertises himself as a patent attorney–his card is on the bulletin board by the front door, so presumably he would be open to member clients. I doubt any handle traffic court.
