Aluminum chop saw angle

The aluminum chop saw has a block mounted on it that has a slot for cutting at a perfect 90 deg angle. However the slot is only as wide as the blade, so cutting at any other angle would expand or create a new slot on the aluminum block mounted to it. If I wanted to cut at a 30 deg angle for example, would I just remove the block and clamp my part to the cutting bed as best as I can? Or should I just create a new ‘gash’ in the block?

You can keep the fence there & use it at any angle. There is enough material on that fence that it should be fine.
