I believe I saw a small airbrush in the Arts room, and I think I saw someone using it. Would anyone be willing to either tutor or teach air brush usage?
Thanks.
Chris

@John_Marlow We do have an airbrush and several paint attachments to it. It’s a Paashe system with AB Tip VL Tip H Tip Standard? Tip V Tip 3 different paint holders hose to attach to air compressor.
I personally haven’t used an airbrush but I would also like to learn I don’t know much about this system. I understand the concept behind it so if anyone pipes up I would love to have someone step up. If not I will watch some youtube videos, experiment and try not to screw it up and we will have a fun little workshop together ok?
I’m certainly no Airbrush Artist ™ (C) but I’ve painted my fair share of vehicles, miniatures, and terrain for wargames with my trusty little Badger 150 I could show the absolute basics if somebody with more experience doesn’t have the time. I will be up there for sure Wednesday (4/22) for the 3D Printer training, I can get there a bit earlier if need be.
I’m also excited to learn airbrushing techniques, especially for pinball play field touch ups. I believe the current ruling is, as I heard from @Haley_Moore, that the airbrush must be used in the paint booth. So this may affect the class set up, but I’m sure it isn’t anything that can’t be over come.
I’m not sure why it has to be in the paint booth, in fact we installed the air line for the air brushes and staple gun that arts has.
In my experience the air brush doesn’t put out enough spray to coat the room.
I don’t see a reason for the paint booth. Most mall’s have people
airbrushing in them.
It is Haley’s rule, not mine.
Did the requirement to airbrush in the non existent spray booth ever get clarified? Is anyone teaching general airbrush skills/use?
An airbrush has less volatiles than a can of spray paint because the propellant is air nor is the propellant flammable (but the aerosol it creates could be).
But I don’t know what the rules are that the Fire Marshal/ or EPA require for an endeavor such as ours.
Would a paint booth be required if the paint were say water based?
One of my friends is planning on teaching a hands on class on Painting technique at DMS. He just has to find the time to schedule it. The way he will present it will be useful to anyone wanting to learn how to properly operate a spray gun to get optimum coverage.
Unfortunately it is not an air brush class.
@Photomancer Such a class can always be done outside at anytime. Just borrow the tent from MetalShop and all day long you can airbrush.
…X…
That works if there is no wind or you have a small portable protected booth (think box maybe). But that’s an idea. I’m referring to airbrush not spray gun.
Curious what type of spray gun? The HVLP or conventional?
It probably goes without saying, but please be cognizant of overspray when painting outside… we had a car dusted with neon green at the space in Calgary once.
It doesn’t take much for it to happen.
Edit: clarification
