Adding a logo to Burlap/Jute

I have a wallet that is partially made from jute. I’d like to add a logo to it. Was thinking either laser, or sewing a tab on.

I can’t sew, and I assume it would be a bit of a pain.

Laser then?

Has anyone used the laser on burlap and avoided affecting any material on the other side?

I found this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBmQ5hsb8fo

My concern is that I have material behind the burlap which I would obviously not want to damage.

Laser didn’t work.

Any ideas?

Laser cut stencil and spray paint or sponged on fabric paint

How durable do you think that would be on a wallet?

It appears the old iron-on method can be mostly duplicated using ink jet printing and wax paper.
One example with wax paper.

Another with “transfer paper”..

Possibly a better one, or at least with better pictures, using “transfer paper”.

No clue on the longevity, esp. for a daily use item like a wallet. They tend to be high wear in my experience.

EDIT: oops. Posted 2 methods of xfer, rather than the second example I MEANT to post: You can also try feeding your jute directly through an ink jet, if it is “free” (it sounds as though yours is already a part of the wallet, so it wouldn’t work this time, but maybe if you make another… Here’s one of those tutorials.

Also, while I’m here, another method which I don’t think will work for your case, where the wallet’s already made, but for future reference, is screen printing.

Finally, my first thought, which I left off originally, is that you’ll really want to just dye it by hand, maybe with a stencil. You could laser cut the stencil…

here’s an idea - the poor man’s Batique would be covering the negative space with a paper template and then possibly using tool dip or water proofing spray paint to do the label in some durable way

How tight is the weave on the jute? Would heat press vinyl work, I have a small tack iron if the heat press won’t work.

Got a pic?

The weave is varied but mostly not very tight. Which is part why I think this is a lost cause for this version

Ah…then stencil dyeing it or screenprinting is probably your best option, but you’d probably need to use a dry brush technique to make it legible.

Yeah, I think I will just have them manufactured with the change on a future production run.
