3D Fab success for Jason Wood

Hello Jason Wood and the 3D Fab forum,

Many thanks to Jason Wood for help me get going on the PolyPrint and resin print machines.
In fact, this post is directed to Mr. Wood since an email address is not known. It is hoped that it is ok to reach out to Jason, who I think is now the 3D Fab area chairman, via this forum.
The Kite Mesenger cases were separated out from the other pieces and the bottom case part that projects out was also separated so the cases would lie flat on their largest horizontal surface as we discussed.
The KM cases are three dimensional rectangular boxes with rounded corners. When the PolyPrint begins the cases the PolyPrint lays out the first long straight line correctly. But when it comes to the curved corner the string does not stick to the base and instead being a nice rounded corner the string is pulled into an irregular shape. So, when the print head comes all the way around to start the next layer the string is not being laid on the previous pass but just going down randomly. When this happens the print is canceled and restarted. This was done several times until the round corner stuck to the base and a decent object was printed.
It is not known why the object would stick to base sometimes and other sometimes not since there was no refactoring or corrective action taken. It seems like its just that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. If the first two or three layers or laid down correctly there is a good chance of success.
Perhaps the string does not lay down the first layer correctly because the temperature of the base does not allow the string to stick to the base. Although this is conjecture on my part any knowledge of the cause of this failure would be helpful.
There was something that is not known about the resin printer set up. Specifically, after the parts are washed in alcohol how is the alcohol disposed? It is surmised that the alcohol is polluted after washing the parts and should be discarded but it is not known where the impure alcohol should go. So rather than foul something up the alcohol was left in the washing machine. If the alcohol disposal is outlined a trip back to DMS will be made immediately to finish the cleanup.
Also the PolyPrint machine marked ‘…96’ was tried unsuccessfully. But it was noticed that there had been duct tape applied to the clear plastic cover. When the duct tape was removed the adhesive stayed on the cover. Isopropyl alcohol and kitchen towels were employed to clean the adhesive off the cover so the work can be seen thru the cover.
Again, thanks for your time, courtesy, knowledge and experience.

And in the “further info about how Talk works”, Jason can send you a PM by clicking your name at the top of your message. So, he doesn’t necessarily need your contact info. (Talk works by Trust levels, which one acquires by reading and posting.) And, it’s possible that you’ve reached a Trust level that lets you send Jason a PM by clicking his “handle” that Justin just gave you.

I will say that’s it’s not what I consider straight-forward to send a PM. It takes a few clicks to get there.

Hello SkySpook and dryad2b<
Thanks for the tip on the contact info.

PS Does anybody know what to do with the alcohol wash
after the resin parts have been washed? Thanks.

Leave it. It can be used over and over before it needs to be removed

Hello engpin and the DMS 3D Lab forum,

The alcohol will be left in the tub.

Thanks.
