What room fits the feel of the makerspace?

There are many pictures of awesome rooms here at the link.

Which one or two fits the mood or style that you would like more represented in Dallas Makerspace?

I am awed by many of those rooms. None were very makerspace-ish.

There were several where I would like to live too. Just need a few spare million.

I’m talking aspects not entire rooms … things that could be integrated into the space to make it more inviting rather than … yup we have a floor… be happy … It is a direction more than a total remodel and millions of dollars.

I would like to be inspired by more than the tools at the space. I would like more character than the bare essentials. When someone goes into a space, they get a feeling from it. I’m wanting a series of pictures that convey the feeling that we want when people visit. We have a person that is working on this very thing and I want some input.

Did you notice the tall room with 2 TV walls that were a forest? That would be a very cool feature.

There was also a room with sculptural ceiling art that reminded me of honey comb. Wrong shapes but right idea. That would suck up sound quite effectively.

That kind of shape in the workshop area would be an interesting addition to counter the noise generation that seems to follow us.

No I didn’t can you post links?

There is a slight possibility that we might get a video wall donated … Right now it is completely up in the air … but that would be sooo cool.

People working best personifies the maker space. The open workshop gets my vote.

Do tell? Are we talking LCD video wall or LED? Send me details (manufacturer if you know it).

This picture from there does not do it justice. That is 3d projection mapping done by Moment Factory called Aura.
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

Lightform.com finally shipped my unit for work. These are a brand new low cost 3d mapping device. I would love to do a mapping in the new front lobby, would just need a projector that doesn’t move and a media player.
I can borrow the lightform from work to do the mapping and planned a demo of it for those interested.

I like the loft in #109, “Loft features exposed joists and brick in this former 1890 Wells Fargo stable and warehouse…”
In the new back open area the ceilings are high enough for a loft area around the edges, offering places to socialize, work on computers, and see what is going on below.

Unfortunately, for public spaces, you have to provide wheelchair access to public areas. I doubt we could justify the cost of installing an elevator system

While that is true, we still could have something up in that space.

Metal rafters and insulation is boring.

Wheel chair lifts (several varieties) are other alternatives. A few of my customers have them.

I work for elevator dispatch. A wheelchair lift would end up under used and repaired for an expensive price tag once a year or so when it’s tested. Add dust / particles blowing around and the likelihood of maintenance goes up. The various logistical costs of having a 2nd story loft space very much outweigh the benefits.

I wish we could relocate the “project storage” BS off the work floor. Seems like there’s rarely enough space to create because there are so many UFOs (unfinished objects) lurking in EVERY nook and cranny.

I think “UFO” could be a new term of endearment at DMS. Thanks.
