I will go first. I am running for PR Chairperson as well as Classroom Chair. I fully appreciate how demanding both roles are, esp as we seek to expand. I will not be able to always give so much time to the MakerSpace, so I want to do it now while I can.

This is - you are - such an amazing, talented, fascinating collection of makers and would-be-makers of more. Let’s empower you with skills, swag, and stories of made things . Let’s create & spread stories of mentoring, sharing, helping, lifting. I want to showcase you, or help you get into a showcase. Or help you make a toilet paper holder, because we need those things too.

More to come.

I have a couple of questions, does folks need to announce ahead of time>
and is a mention that we need to elect a chair at the meeting on talk count

Trying to figure out if I complicated things by mentioning it I am just a committee member

Election has to be announced on Calendar 14 days in advance. That is published time on calendar, not submitted to. The up to 48 hours in review does not count.

There is no requirement for announcement prior to a vote that I know of. You can wait up to the last moment to be on the BoD ballot. Just waiting till that point won’t get you on the email or printed ballot … but write-ins would be counted.

Letting people know in advance is a good practice and is generally encouraged.

I think the reasons nominees come out at committee meetings is a lot of chairs are reluctant ones: if someone else will do it, they won’t run … that or I’ll do it before that person gets it. This is not to say that a lot members that are chairs actively seek out the position which is great.

The only requirement is for the election to be posted on the calendar two weeks in advance.

The board of directors has created a crisis requiring the immediate election of committee chair people.

The Rules allow for emergency meetings to deal with such forced crisis.

“The Chair may hold an emergency Committee meeting with 5 days notice on the forums of DMS, and on signs conspicuously posted in the committee area, provided a good faith effort to notify all current committee members is performed, and that the time of the meeting is not unreasonably restrictive on the members.”
https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Rules_and_Policies#Committee_Responsibilities_and_Rules

Please note the requirements. Post signs. Let your team know. Reply on this thread. Post a new topic of Talk.

The rule right above it says

Meetings at which Committee Chairs are elected must be posted 2 weeks prior to meeting.

Any committee election which does not appear on the calendar for exactly the full 14 days will not have their chair recognized by the board.

Let’s see, the election is to be held by Sept 30th., announced on the 20th. But that is late that evening so call it the 21st.

That’s 10 days in August, and 30 for September in which to have it. That’s 40 days. Just about a month and a half. You could have EIGHT emergency meetings in that same amount time. That’s a lot of emergencies.

But as Luke pointed out, elections have their own 14 day requirement and 40 days were provided to have it. It may in a crisis in your mind but none was created by the Board.

@Team_Moderators Please pin to the top so everyone can easily find the committee elections being urgently posted.

@Azalaket @Mrksls2
Have we submitted/scheduled a meeting for the new election?
I know we agreed to the 2nd Wednesday of each month for our committee meeting, but I don’t think that gives us enough time to post and give the 14 days.

We’ll post it today. Should have enough time… need to be done by September 30th right?

Meeting is at Wednesday September 19 at 7:00 pm purple classroom.
