Yet Another PCB Mill Thread

I’m nearing completion of my first PCB design and it would be awesome to mill a test board or two before sending it off to a board shop.

I’ve got some CNC experience on the Shapeoko and Multicam, and the wiki page @mstovenour linked in this thread has some nice details to get me started.

If someone would be willing to give me a walk-through and/or certify me to use the mill, I’d be happy to repay the favor by augmenting the documentation.

Development on the PCB Mill kind of ground to a halt because of CV-19.
Last time I checked the following were being worked on -

  1. fixturing for hold pcb board
  2. z axis topology mapping ( in ChiliPeper)
  3. alternative sftwr that runs locally - no cloud.

Currently there’s no classes / training.
Jay Phelps @jphelps does training on the Shapeoko and may do classes for the PCB Mill

Where we at @Team_PCB_Mill??

We’ve started cutting ballots for Pennsylvania under a lucrative contract from Mayor Doomberg! Expect full funding of DMS any day now…

Ahhhh…that would explain all that chad stuff on the floor, but doesn’t explain why the sprinkler closet door was open. Oh wait…never mind. :upside_down_face:

It seems the price for these have really gone down in the past year or two I was thinking of getting one of these myself.

Depending on how much its worth to you that might convince me to give it a shot or it might be something for the electronics committee or other to consider

I’d be happy to meet you and show you what I know. Repeatable fixturing is a problem I haven’t solved yet but I think you could manage a single sided board with two sided tape. I can show you Chilipeppr if you have a laptop or can get one of the DMS laptops. I purchased some pcbs in various sizes and some end mills that you can use for practice. You should plan to give it a few tries before getting all the settings right. In trade all I ask is that you document your success for the next person.

I’m heading to Houston for the weekend. I could meet you any night Mon - Thurs or next weekend.

We already have at least what you show in this picture. CNC is working well. What I was hoping was to create a mount with enough repeatability to easily align for two sided boards. If we give up on that then we could install a t-slot hold down just as pictured.

That would be excellent! I would be happy to document the whole process.

Monday should work great. Will PM you.

Found Shapeoko tool box left in ELab.
It’s been returned to its home on the Shapeoko cart.

My bad! Thanks for taking care of it. Sorry for the trouble.
