Woodturning - Tool Sharpening Question

Hello,

I have taken the wood turning sharpening class to use the traditional turning tools, and I remember getting a handout for sharpening bowl and spindle gouges (that I since lost). What are the typical settings we are using for the community use bowl gouges? From what I have seen online, the vari-grind should be set to 23° degrees and the tool should protrude 2" from the jig. Then the raptor setup guides can be used to adjust the bevel angle.

I noticed that some of the bowl gouges don’t match the raptor guides with the settings above, so I want to make sure I am following the standard grind for the community tools. Let me know if our setup is different than what I wrote above.

As a side note, it would be great if all of the bowl gouges were clearly marked with their grind settings.

Thanks

You may have taken the sharpening class from me. The material I use in the classes has not been updated for the new tools we purchased several months ago, and there are some inconsistencies on the current grinds on those tools. As you know, the bowl gouge settings are little tricky to setup. I’ll update the doc and give you a better description after I assess the grinds on the current tool sets.
