Hello my woodturning peeps. One of my favorite things about turning is not just making the thing but also applying the decorative arts to it. Also mixed media work. When you swing by, take a look at @Kriskat30 turned vessel in the lobby display case. My favorite part is the use of the barbed wire that encircles the vessel. Well done! My other favorite part of mixed media is collaboration between different types of artists. As an example, taking a wood bowl, cutting it in half (oh, the horror!) and then handing it over to a weaver who applies a nice basket weave center to it reconnecting it into one piece again. I’ll show an example later and bring some to the next meetup. ANYWAY, here are a couple of links with decorations and mixed media to fill your imagination and perhaps we can do a collaborative challenge at some point. cheers!

here is my own example of a mixed media item (circa 2002). This is a turned cherry box, wrapped in leather which was first laser engraved with a basketweave pattern. It was an experiment so I I didn’t tool it, but it shows the point. with everything at our disposal at DSM, just imagine how you could improve on this.
