Woodshop Honorarium Plan

Approved Woodshop Monthly Plan for Classes

After a discussion of the current DMS financial situation and the Honorarium changes being considered, the Woodshop committee approved the following plans in an effort to support the BoD issues and fulfill the Woodshop Committee mission:

Woodshop will go from the recent 77 honorarium classes per month to 20 honorarium classes per month. This will reduce the Honorarium cost from $7700.00 per month to $1,000.00 per month with the new 25/25/15 plan (we only train members so the $15.00 non-member doesn’t apply) and we already charge $5.00 per class for basic WS1-4.

These classes will be recognized for honorarium.

1 Multicam Class – Test out paid to instructor
1 Lathe 101 class
1 Pen Turning Class
1 Lathe doodad Class i.e. Bottle stoppers resin etc
4 Wood carving classes – May change based on Instructor commitment
2 (8) Wood Shop 1-4 classes

16 total classes
This plan leaves 4 honorarium classes open to correct for demand

To make training available, Woodshop will support the additional training options:

  1. Any class can be scheduled as non-Honorarium Class
  2. Woodshop will offer Proficiency testing for the WS 1-4 series
  • a. Build a cutting board to specs through glue up
  • b. From glue up to finish ready board
  1. Woodshop Instructors will offer training and testing on individual machines.
  • a. These classes will have to be built

  • b. appropriate fees established

  • c. Individual AD clearance established

    1. Teacher can schedule WS 1-4 as Eventbrite Classes

Example :
4 students @ $80.00 *=$320

  • a. $80.00 materials, $240 Instructor
  1. Teacher can schedule individual coaching
  • a. For a fee, standardized fees will be established

*Based on the Woodcraft class price of $60.00 for basic square board to $285 for 2-day Basic woodworking.

Thanks for putting this together Mike. As for the MultiCam class, since we charge $50 for the class, it is a positive cash flow for the Woodshop. We usually have between 10 and 20 folks attend each class which generates an inflow of between $500-$1000 per class taught.
