Wooden Recurve Bow for Odysseus Cosplay

Hi All,

tl;dr

I’m trying to find a wooden recurve bow for an Odysseus cosplay photoshoot.

Wondering if anyone might:
a) have one that could be respectfully borrowed for 1-2 days of photos
b) know where I could rent one in the DFW area

Note: Most of the costume shops in the area I have called do not rent weapons and have also said that it’s unlikely that most shops will be willing to do so.

Thank you for your time!

Regards,
Piotr

More Context:

I’m trying to capture an ragged Odysseus at the tail end of the journey with a stained torn khiton and cloak (and a cloak pin I made based on the Athenian drachma owl in light of Athena as his patron). Did some research to try to at least marginally disambiguate between older Greek vs Roman trappings.

  • Bow – All wood recurve bows seemed to balance a modicum of accuracy vs pragmatism of actually finding something.

Random Extra
I’m also noodling make a “sheathed” Greek xiphos sword.

  • Scabbard – I think I can make a decent facsimile with EVA foam textured and finished to leather look.

  • Sword Handle – I wanted to maybe use the lathe to make the handle, but I’m not sure how long it will take to get the lathe room up and running, and sneak into an intro class. TBD
