Wood with Danish oil on laser?

Here’s a question that I’m pretty sure the answer is a big negative, but I’ll ask anyway. Cutting baltic birch with danish oil on the laser–bad idea, right?

I would think it is OK if it is fully cured, i.e. all of the volatile have evaporated out.

Put another way…I’ve done this before. A little finish on something helps keep dust/smoke from embedding into wood grain.

Yes. Epilog even recommends finishing the wood first so it doesn’t absorb smoke in the grain.

Re being fully cured - I think that is more so it’s not sticky, which would grab smoke. Most solvents evaporate quickly, and the oil will not ignite (it’s a very thin layer with air assist blowing). Will uncured oil leave more of a residual burn? I have not tested this.
