Do we have a centralized location on the wiki where one can look up the costs of materials or use for a particular machine?
For example, we sell vinyl for the vinyl cutter, it would be nice to know how much that is before driving to DMS. Laser has section set up on their committe page that outlines the costs of use of the laser (we don’t sell any consumables outright at DMS for that, to my knowledge).
I understand that this would be up to each committee to populate and keep up to date, but I think it would be extremely useful for many DMS users - especially those making longer trips to get to DMS in the first place.
I would volunteer as tribute to populate that if committees are willing to send me the data.
I also have a follow-up: how do things get put into the Squares?
This seems pretty darned authoritative, and if @BarkingChicken and/or others are interested in keeping up a list for us, maybe they should be “copied” on whatever that mechanism is… @Robert_Davidson I think handles (or handled) those?
The coolest, of course, would be the ability to “realtime” (or “cache-copy daily”) the list from all the squares to a central location…
We have the main tools page. That’s the central location for tool information, links to manuals and committee pages, etc.
We could add a column for Fee - or more accurately - a link to the fee. I would NOT put the fee in that column. That means it would have to be maintained in at least two places. Instead I would put in a link where they can look up the fee.
And there would have to be a disclaimer that the fee will still be collected even if the online information isn’t maintained - because all the fees are also documented in the specific workshops.
Is this “dashboard” something we can show “the common folk”?
I’m guessing not.
In which case, can it be polled and/or pulled into another format we CAN show “the common folk”?
At the very least, could @BarkingChicken Shay be given access to it, if Shay’s willing to do the heavy lifting of transcribing that into a Wiki page?
The thing that having a price won’t tell you is if any of it is left. That – more than the price being more than you’ve got at the moment – might make your trip not worth it. Just consider buying your own whatever.
