I would like to find some open cell foam in large sheets (4’x8’ ish) or in rolls of reasonable length (10+ ft) in thicknesses from 1/4 - 1 inch or so. Whatever type of foam those cheap charcoal colored paint brushes are made from gave me some interesting ideas for experimentation. It would be nice if there was a local place I could go to and actually feel and touch some different types of foam to find the density and porosity ranges I’m looking for, but I have no idea what kind of business would be selling this stuff and my lack of ability to come up with different words for what I’m looking for is hindering my ability find something with google.
If any of you awesome makers could give me some direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
if you cannot find a source - have you considered making a form , getting the chemical precursors, and making the sheets yourself? I recall working in a radio refurb warehouse and each radio would get it’s own custom packing foam made on the spot - half fill a box with expanding foam - set a plastic sheet on this - the radio - cover with another plastic sheet - fill the remaining space - instant custom foam packing… Would seem to me you could form your own sheets as well using a similar method.
Also - in the size you want - the shipping of such sheets would eat you alive from a cost standpoint. Cans of the binary precursors ship FAR easier.
