When is the next bisque firing?

Hi, I’m a new member and I finally have a piece ready to fire. When is the next bisque firing happening? Is there a regular firing schedule I can reference in the future or does it change by month? Thank you!

Hi, have you attended Ceramics 100?

In this REQUIRED class we talk about the kilns, firing, where to place your pieces, and how our shelving system/timing works.

If your item is completely dry, not cool to the touch, you can place it on the greenware ready to fire shelf and the kiln team will load it when it fits and/or when other items before yours have been fired. Is your item cone 6 clay?

Firing is a first come first serve process.

Please reach out if you have more questions,

Hi, yes I took your 100 class on February 4th at 6:00pm. I wasn’t registered but I asked to sit in.

My item is made from white stoneware from Trinity. It is bone dry and painted with underglaze. It is the small cafe bustelo coffee jar with a lid that’s on the greenware shelves. I made it as a gift and I would ideally like to have it by the weekend if possible. Thus I wanted to know if the bisque would happen soon.

Short answer: It will almost certainly make it through bisque. We fire nearly every day (as soon as we have a full kiln load+available kiln team member). Watch the Kiln Thread to see if it has been unloaded.

Additional answer: As we are a volunteer run organization, we do not guarantee any sort of firm schedule and your best best is to plan accordingly to give plenty of time for items to make it through the process. Any sort of delay can occur- kiln repairs, shelf maintenance, a short term slump in people’s productivity leading to not enough to fire a full load, etc. Most days of the week have a dedicated kiln team member coming in but we all also have outside DMS lives and schedule conflicts happen. The team tries to grab a fill-in, but again, it’s as people are available. Honestly, it’s really amazing that we keep Ceramics running so efficiently and well! Big thanks to everyone for contributing their personal time to helping so many others achieve their artistic endeavours.

That’s one of my favorite coffees and such a fantastically done underglaze pieces!!

Once the items are loaded keep in mind it takes another 12 hours or more to cool. It is very possible it’ll be out of the bisque fire before this weekend. Getting it through bisque and glaze cone6 fire would be a stretch though

@cmcooper0 Great, this is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for this information! I’ll keep it in mind for future projects.

@Monikat Aww I’m glad you liked the piece! Bustelo is amazing. I love the aroma in the morning! I don’t plan on glazing it since I’ve had terrible experience in the past with a clear glaze stripping the underglaze. Still haven’t nailed down the process quite yet.

FYI…I stopped in this afternoon and it looks like your piece made it into a bisque load that happened mid morning. Look for it Tuesday evening or so.

Update:looks like cooling may take until Wednesday morning
