My own person opinion is a strong one on this - but this is a collective communal type of hippie love fest so I feel all of you should put down the hummus and have a say.
I’ve spent around $500 to just see if we could get the HP working.
This includes a $187 service call
and 2 $150 printheads
and basically it’s turned into a little a-hole.
The repair man quoted me $600 for a new carriage assembly and labor if the printhead didn’t fix the issue. I’m not a fan.
This will not be a fair and unbiased poll. The language of the poll itself is pretty funny. Everyone should take it just to see it. I voted to put it out to pasture even though I don’t even use it or have a need for it. Put it on the donation shelf or ask if someone will pay CA a few dollars for it, but it sounds like it needs to go.
BTW. You’re a great chair of CA. Ray @artnerdray is awesome, too. I really appreciate all of the work you two do for CA and DMS.
Ink Jet Printer are a Vindictive Beast. They are an amazing feet of engineering until they break. Then you seem to find yourself chasing and fixing issues just to find the cause was something else. Of course you don’t find that out till you replace the most expensive part of the machine, the print head.
The issue is most likely the insertion of the print head, I have a DTG printer that used inkjet technology and we had a similar issue. We replaced the print head just to find out the issue was our installation of the previous print head. Do with the printer what you wish. I won’t be shedding a tear for the broke HP.
Didn’t we just have a big one, with 2 different paper sizes, offered to us, which we temporized on because of the belief that this machine would soon be fixed?
Yes, my reasoning for not getting a new large printer is because we have two already and one was not working. I felt it best to get the broken one fixed or at least try to get it fixed. This is what I advised Nicole to do.
No one knew if it could be fixed within a reasonable price.
Now that we know this one cant be fixed within a reasonable price it can be removed without wondering if we gave it a decent chance.
As for the other printer that was mentioned. I tried to find reviews and feed back on it and came up empty handed. Id much prefer to get a new printer I can read other people’s review/opinion on, so I can get an idea what to expect from it and if it would be suitable for our needs
I have been waiting on this printer for quite a while and if it does get pitched, I would really like it replaced. I have a bunch of large leather patterns I need to print and for large things like that which don’t require high def color or fancy paper, I don’t know of another resource at the space unless we can also run plain paper though the remaining printer (although I was originally that was a big no-no and required special training/permission).
Printing them out on regular paper and tiling and taping them together is a pain in the butt.
