What’s worse than a detached print

What’s worse than your model becoming detached from the print bed?

You model detaching from the print bed, sticking to the printhead, then continuing to print for the rest of the 7+ hour print job, gradually completely encasing the printhead of my Prusa MK3 in plastic.

I was able to get the plastic off (eventually), but broke both of the thermister wires in the process. Some small amounts of PLA still to remove, then I’ll be able (I hope) to replace the thermister and print a new fan shroud (which was also damaged).

This failure was oddly reminiscent of a failure I had with my homebuilt PrintrBot Frankenstein Paul Brown helped by build back in March 2012. In that case, the Y axis belt slipped off the pulley, killing one axis but allowing the printer to keep extruding until all was stuck to the bed and the printhead was trapped, in turn killing the X axis.

Good times.
