It might be loud but so am I
This is a tool that can be utilized to make plates to print - thatās all I needed to hear and I wanted it. Hopefully with the minds we have here at DMS we can figure out a way to use it without causing much of a disturbance to others. John showed me a demo but I would LOVE to learn how to use the software to run it.
Please teach me about it!
Patently untrue, I have always found you to be the shy and retiring type!

[/quote]With a committee adoption letās move to a regular class approach. There seems to be enough interest no? @JohnK was kind enough to show me the ropes and I am willing to step up and formalize a class of some kind and John may be willing too.
There is not; it currently is run from personal laptops or similar. @bscharff, if we could add a dedicated machine to run this would it make sense to pursue an AD login approach along the lines of what is being done for the Wide Format printer? No pressing need to track usage and feeās, just thinking it would allow basic tracking of usage and if need be we could restrict access to persons who have attended the class.
Yes!
Are we wanting to move it into the CA room?
Iām excited. Printmaking mania here we come!
I canāt imagine that an enclosure will cut the noise down to the point that the machine is welcome in the CA environment - neverminding that a vacuum is also needed and those arenāt terribly quiet. An enclosure will help immensely with the dust, but I suspect there will be unwanted leakage with steady dust infiltration of the entire room.
I have one of these in our living roomā¦

The Nomadās enclosure makes a very significant difference. When the operator creates a reasonable tool-path, it does not interfere with normal conversation / television viewing. I suspect that would be also true for a Shapeoko.
The vacuum (small Shop-Vac) I use makes significantly more noise. It does interfere with conversation.
When run correctly, the Shapeoko should produce very little dust. The goal is to produce small āchipsā.
That has not been my experience with my Nomad. The enclosure traps dust inside. I simply vacuum inside when the machine has finished.
I see no reason the shapeoko āsystemā cannot be assembled into a self contained unit with casters. It could then moved out to the workshop area if the nose and dust become an issue.
@bscharff The stand we will build for the machine will be including the computer. So if you can provide it, and be kind enough to just leave on table in CA with note ATTN: DAVID K, Iāll take from there.
The cabinet will also house the small shop vacuum weāll get for it. Idea is to have it on casters so it can easily be rolled out of CA for use in the main workshop if itāll be disturbing some activity in CA at the time of use. Then be brought back and stored in CA which should keep @ESmith happy! Want it completely self-contained: router, computer, vacuum, accessory storage.
After my discussion with @Photomancer this Saturday, I was convinced that Creative Arts has a workable plan to assume ownership of the shapeoko
