I just got back about an hour ago from being out of town on a job in nowhere Arkansas so I’ve been out of touch…
Do we have an ETA on a reopening?

There’s no ETA. Whatever the government and county recommends is likely. My guess is a couple weeks to a couple months. Keep an eye on what other businesses and organizations are doing (churches, schools, etc.).
What Luke said. We closed in the same wave that closed things like gyms, bars, etc. If you hear news that that type of place is opening, then we’re likely to be open as well.
And, naturally, Talk will be a hot-bed of (hopefully valid) information…
Awesome.
All right, I appreciate the information. I’ll keep an eye on things.
County just extended “shelter in place” to May 20.
So that would be the absolute soonest. Probably longer…
May 20th was a typo/error, it is currently April 30.
Well lets hope so. I’m concerned about the major impact of extending it.
In my personal (in no way representing a official message from anywhere or anything) I don’t think we will be returning to “regular physical school” this school year.
I hope my gut isn’t right on this one.
My guess is we will be mopping this up in August. And that is IF we get a vaccine.
Dallas county has already called it for the year. Nobody is returning to campus until the fall. Pretend online school is still a go though. I don’t imagine it will be too long until Abbot calls it and hopefully TEA will follow suit and stop the madness
My issue with the forecasts as well. How do they know returning back to regularly scheduled programming will not trigger another wave since nobody else hit has gotten to that point
My teacher bubble has been talking this over as well I think the state can’t pull the trigger and call it a year because of all the allowances and support school districts are giving right now to students and teachers and support staff. Sped, free lunch distribution to thousands, hourly employees etc. also just the fact that teachers might be the only positive contact (and person to know when someone needs immediate help) that a kid might have during the day. A large part of what we’re doing right now is wellness checks and getting kids hooked up with the support that they need. Now that rent is paid I think needs will be more prevalent in our kiddos.
I don’t know. I’ve spent the last week largely frustrated with trying to get it all going. I feel like I’m doing alright everyone is struggling and I’m just so pleased with the way my district is rolling things out. Kids and families first.
I just wish everyone would settle on one standard for distance learning / online meetings. I currently have every damn thing in the world installed on all devices. Some are pretty big security risks like Zoom.
“We” (teachers inside our district) are all supposed to streamline right now over the next few weeks. It should get better. Should. If not, just roll around in the drudgery for a few more months.
Let’s hope this is true.
Kenneth and I are delaying the wedding.
Were putting off the trip to see the mars launch.
Just fart face on everything.
Yeah…mentioning in teacher forums that Zoom is not safe right now is basically the same as besmirching a Pope. It’s crazy how many are cultishly loyal to a company they hadn’t heard of three months ago. They think Zoom bombs are the worst of it.
We are all Google based since the campus was anyway but peeps were definitely left stranded. My dad is at JP Morgan and even though distance working was their filed plan of action for pandemics even they didn’t have infrastructure in place for it.
Even go to meeting has a security hole that has been there for years, and still is not properly addressed.
My guess is June 1, but no one knows, current forecast is for peak disease in Dallas in early May. I am watching what happens in China as they loosen their restrictions to see if the disease returns. Too soon to say there and some are doubting their data, but if they reimpose restrictions it will be a bad sign. I think we will be very fortunate if we have a vaccine by the end of the year. Also remember it takes time to vaccinate 300 million people and vaccines do not give Instant immunity.
Cisco has been doing extended evaluations until July (and will probably extend it if everything keeps going wonky with the virus response)… Webex, AnyConnect VPN, AMP For Endpoints, and DUO 2 Factor Authentication for the remote systems, UCM license extensions for remote workers, and more.
You can password protect your Webex session and eject folks from meetings. There’s even a Training Center where you control participant access.
