Welding project up for grabs

Would anyone like to weld some reinforcements onto the blue vice table in automotive?

It needs some diagonal bracing (1-2 feet long would be good) in both directions on all 4 corners. There is a lot more of the 1" square tubing inside the ducting at the bottom of the project shelving near the woodshop door or any other scrap metal would be good. If anyone would like some welding practice feel free to go for it.

Can I ask why? These tables shouldn’t need that extra support as they have the stretcher at the bottom. Is the table racking / twisting when the vice is in use?

It has some rock to it along the long axis, the other tables built with 2x1 along the entire top are solid, but the 1x1 running long ways on this one doesn’t provide enough rigidity where it meets the legs.

Also when welding please try not to set the wood on fire

I don’t know if I can get to this or not, currently working on fabricating some stuff to organize the metal shop. This would be a perfect opportunity for one of my students (hint…hint…any volunteers?) to get some welding practice in though.

@Brandon_Green
Ya still wanting this done?
I’d love to say I’ll do it “fer sure”, because I desperately need to practice, but I can’t swear I’ll find the time…
Figured I’d make sure it was still wanted before I worry about where the 1" stock is you mention, in case I manage to find a bit o’ time…

Sure, reinforcing table would be great

Did the tubing suggested for this get moved into the metal shop? I am unable to find it in the project shelves near the wood shop, though I’m not the best bloodhound around, either…

It should be inside two of the ~6" diameter 8 foot long silver ducting on the lowest shelf near the wood scrap bin, might have to move some of the duct bits to see it.
