We have in issue in the CA room broken letterpress - please help if you can

I’ve been gone this week and I will continue to be gone till next week so I haven’t been able to see this yet. I’m crushed.

David @Photomancer reported to me that a piece of our (new to us) letterpress has broken off - this is not allowing our inking platen to rotate. Our precious (truly) tool is really really damaged and is currently even more inoperable. We JUST bought it! They don’t make them anymore. It might be impossible for me to relay how much this hurts the birth of a printmaking program if this thing can’t be repaired. PLEASE I BEG you if you know where the broken piece went I beg that you put them near the letterpress so we can repair it.
We haven’t even had this tool for an entire month.

I haven’t seen the damage and I’m not going to be able to come up to the space until next week. We aren’t sure when the damage happened or why someone would be messing with it in the first place.

Dammit, now Creative Arts too. If you don’t know what it is or how it works stop f’n with it. I looked at it shortly after it arrived and it looked intact.

Couldn’t we make one?

If we knew what the part looked or behaved like?

I’ll try to take a look at it on Tuesday. Could possibly cast a new part in aluminum if that will work.

Has it been fixed?

I just took a look at it and did not notice anything broken or missing. I examined it closely when David was working on it when it first got here. There is a pawl which engaged the ridges on the back of the platen and it still appears to work, though maybe not as well as I remembered?

Y’all I have no idea - I honestly haven’t been up to the space. I just got the message and I freaked out.

While it’s terrible that it’s broken, I’ll try to focus on the positive. Isn’t it great that we have a bunch of members who jump in to help figure out what’s wrong and how to fix it!

I just got back to the Space. Whoever returned and re-installed the prawl/ratchet many many thanks. In the future if something is removed, from any Makerspace piece of equipment - please put a note on it stating that it has been removed and who to contact.

Have no idea why this removed unless someone thought they could rebuild the wear that is on this piece so it would work more efficiently (it will occasionally skip an advancement).
