Volunteer needed: Design / 3d print button for lift

Would anyone be interested in designing and printing a dome button to go on the end of the up micro switch on the lift? Right now there is just the end of a Honeywell BE2RQ1-A4 micro switch sticking out, I was thinking it would look better with a 1-2 inch diameter dome button stuck on the end of the plunger

It looks like:

I can look at it either tonight or tomorrow and come up with something.

Would it look like this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:379920

Thanks, it should say UP as thats the button to turn power on to the motor / hydraulic pump

Ok cool, I can customize it since it’s a OpenSCAD script.

and if I may suggest, the wording or arrow or whatever should really be depressions (and painted) rather than raised. The raised lettering will wear off much more quickly than depressions with paint…

On the other hand, depressed lettering or design will tend to accumulate grease and grime.

Remember - 3D printing is a new medium. You can use a filament in a contrasting color for the raised lettering or design; no need to use paint. And if you keep a copy of the design file, it will be easy to print another one when the original wears out.

Not really, if done right.

Say what? Plastic is new? Don’t think so, hoss.

Well, sure, if you want the print job on our 3d printers to be a giant pain in the @55.

Fair enough. But my personal policy makes it very difficult to do “good enough” when you could “do it right, just the once”, especially at very little cost.
Since I ain’t the one makin’ it, it’s just a suggestion. Whomever IS doing it can do it right (my way) or any of a number of other (wrong) ways.

Raised text with switching out the filament is fine, recessed text would also work. Since it’s a dome button I could two-tone the button by switching the filament for same effect. Anyway I didn’t get around to it last night I could probably do it tonight.

BTW this is about 6mm tall text printed two-tone, it turned out very well.

Do you just hit pause and manually retract the filament and then insert a different filament?

Yep, on Righty specifically has new firmware that moves the head out of the way when you pull the filament switch, it makes it easier to switch out filament mid-print.

@brandon_green here’s the button. It’s press fit on the button, I don’t think it’ll come off unless someone pushes or pulls it hard enough. Also it’s very obvious now.

Looks awesome, thanks!

Maybe it’s my phone… What does it say on the button? It almost looks like two shades of the same color.

It looks embossed/inset, all the same color, “LIFT”

It fell off when I was using the lift the other night, it was just press fit on there, I’m going to figure out a better way to clip it on the button soon.
