Virtual Classes at DMS?

DMS as a whole could use volunteers willing to teach more virtual classes so that we can maintain interest, maintain members, and most importantly maintain community.

These classes do not have to be the things you normally do at DMS. We can and should be thinking outside the box for ways to engage. Take Josh for example- he’s teaching a class on Ebay that is fairly popular from what I’ve heard.

If classes are not your thing then how about hosting a virtual event?

Here are some ideas that I have come up with.

Previous classes and events we can do in virtual:

  • Weekly Fiberfrolics
  • Weekly D&D
  • Most coding/web based classes

New(?) Ideas:

  • Weekly Book Clubs
  • KALs (Knit-Alongs) or similar projects that can be done “together.”
  • COOKING CLASSES YA’LL
  • Bullet Journaling Classes
  • Journaling/Planning Events!
  • Snail Mail Groups? Could be fun.
  • Q&A events for things like woodshop/workshop
  • Auto based Q&A events
  • Auto based classes like changing your oil or other minor fixes/hacks

I’m fully aware some of these are on Youtube, but that does not mean that we cannot still offer them to our members should someone want to take these on.

This is an open discussion so please add ideas and ask questions!

Due to fiscal concerns I would like to pose that these are all voluntary classes and not for honorarium. However, honorarium during this is entirely up to the board.

My friend group has been streaming whenever we work on hobbies on our discord. We’ve had everything from Ham Radio Morse code contesting, to building a new computer, to making bread, to playing CS:GO. It’s been quite fun to just hang out and watch our friends do something they enjoy.

This would be an awesome “event” to host!

Just a monthly member hangout

I know what bullet journalling is, but for a split second I had a day dream about a bunch of burly @Team_Hatchers guys (and gals) sitting in a conference call telling stories about the hard time this little .25ACP had and wrote about when he was younger for being pudgy by all of his .22LR “friends” in school.
