Video Editing Software at DMS

As a follow-up to two older strings:

Is most everyone using Adobe CS?

Because of my employer I am most proficient with Edius and can get licenses for the two computers in the Digital Media Room if that would be of any interest.

Kewlness! I’m tagging @Digital_Media_Team and @Infrastructure_Team to make sure all involved with the Digital Media software decisions see this!

I see no problem with installing it on two of our computers in Digital Media. We would have to make sure that the licenses are in Dallas Makerspace’s name. It looks like it is pretty easy to use.

Edit: Draco tired … lol

It is certainly not any harder than Premiere. The big advantage is the plethora
(and I mean plethora) of codecs natively supported in real-time.

@bscharff Coordinate with Brooks about the installation and licenses on the computers.

I did a quick search on comparisons. I can’t find the date that this article was last updated; however, it seems to cover quite a bit of the pros and cons of the popular video editing software programs.

Keeping in mind that I don’t know how to use any of them… The article is written clear enough that made sense - even to a complete novice.

That being said, EDIUS seems to rate pretty darn well!

Yuppers, @bscharff is the Infrastructure Chair (@Infrastructure_Team), so he will have to confirm the licensing, etc…

The Chairperson of the committee requesting software to be installed needs to approve it before Infrastructure will consider it, which is why I tagged the @Digital_Media_Team, as well.

Thanks again for the offer!

Oh … we had a vote and I am the new chair once approved by the board

Congrats @Draco!!!

As far as I’m concerned, that gives you the authority to approve the request, as long as @bscharff can confirm that the licensing that @sampeterson provides will work in our environment.

Thanks so much guys!

Shoot me an email with the licensing and I’ll check it over

What about blender rendering?

Are you asking about rendering specifically, or are you just asking about Blender the software suite as it relates to the original topic “video editing”?

Rendering scenes from Blender models. Otherwise I would of asked about video rendering.

OK, I guess I don’t understand what that has to do with the thread. Are you talking about rendering into a video file? Blender has a rendering engine, although there are several external renderers with more advanced feature sets. I haven’t done much with that since I stopped doing Alias|Wavefront support about 20 years ago.

In-case anyone is wondering why this thread shows new activity - without any visible new activity, it’s because a member posted a question, then deleted the post himself. I happen to think it’s a legitimate question, so here is the part that I happen to be curious about now, too! :relaxed:
