I’m in the same boat. I got my key fob working to enter the building but the specific machine I want to use wasn’t hooked into the network and had my old key fob number assigned to it. I even went up and installed the network cabinet and the network switch for the machine shop tools to try to help out. I can’t wait to get to use it. The Machine shop looks great and the machines look like they are in really good shape since the last time I tried to use them. Although the tooling looks a little on the lacking side (milling bits wise). But the money and effort into the coolant system is awesome and well spent and because it has been set up so well, money and budget in the future for the machine shop will be minimized which will allow future budgets to go toward tooling. Not only that but the HAAS will be happier too that it has fresh clean coolant all the time. Thank you Tim and contributing parties.
Who is the administrator of the Jump server? Actually I guess I should just make a new topic. Not trying to highjack your thread. Sorry
The Infrastructure Team takes care of the Jumpbox.
Please don’t take this as an attack. We have plenty of mill’s. If you think we are lacking in some common sizes, then let us know. We try to keep up on all our tooling & consumables but it can be an undertaking when we are juggling many plates that are full. Thankfully we have help. I encourage committee members to put in what they think we need or are missing.
I am in no means disappointed in the tooling. In fact I would rather bring my tooling(mill drills, ball nose, bull nose, end mills) and have the machine in good condition. To me having the machine in good working order is more important than haveing a crap load of random tooling to try to get my job done. Gangweir always kept a lot of tooling but the coolant and general maintenance on the machines were kind of ignored. I think he did a pretty good job of trying to cope with everyones needs. But when it comes to a machine shop the is a tall order to fill. I really like the situation as it is right now(except the fact I can’t use the HAAS-LOL) I know ya’ll are working on it and trying to get it straightened out.
This is a good approach to other committee areas as well. I’d rather use my own router bits that I know are sharp than trust the woodshop bits to be present and sharp. At least for commonly-used ones - big expensive bits are another story. Some folks bring their own saw blades. I have my own leather stitching chisels and some punches.
My grandpa used to say for anything that measures or cuts precisely, you should bring your own tools to the job rather than trusting someone else’s tools.
