Vacuum former info

At one point we had a vacuum former what happened to it? Do we still have it? If so where? If not, can some one recommend a place to go for that?

It sat in project storage for ~6 months with effectively no instruction nor a committee that wanted to take it over and was hence removed (to where I don’t know).

The vacuum former is no more. I gather that CA has occasionally spoken of getting another, smaller unit, but that has yet to happen.

I thought CA had a small desktop version but not the heater itself as to that’s what we were lacking. I know the big vacuformer has been gone for some time.

We do have a desktop former in creative arts and we have a heater. We are just in the process of making an enclosure for the heater so that it can be used.

I believe some have used the vacuum former using just a heat gun to soften the plastic.

Once the trebuchet project is complete (and I’m done moving house) I will restart the heater enclosure project

What kind of enclosure? Can we make something that breaks down for better space management?

Did I see a small “toaster oven” in CA for polymer clay? That might be usable as a heater.

Yes. Or there was last I looked.

The large one is no more. The one we have in CA is a tabletop unit. It has a 9-3/4" x 9-3/4" capacity. This other thread has information about that unit. Here is a link to an Instructable on how to make your own if you need something a little larger.

Yep that’s exactly what we had in mind. It will also be foil lined so it’ll be more efficient to heat the plastic .

I have a bunch of 115V heating elements, if you need them. They are about 12"~18" in length.

What do you think about using aluminum? We could cut some on the plasma cutter then it would be more durable than just foil.
