Using Lustre and Overglaze

I have a couple questions about using overglazes at the makerspace. Can it only be done when classes come around? Do you need multiple pieces to make it worth doing the low firing? Can the firing be done in the glass kilns?

If you don’t want to wait for a class, you should probably show up to the Ceramics Committee meeting, and ask about it. @Christykaake is the expert. So long as a kiln can be filled, that can be run.

We should probably tag @jamierazzz too, so that she knows what’s coming.

Glass says “no”. They program differently and have different coil positions. Plus, it’s my understanding that lustres and such outgas. Ceramics is accustomed to that.

Hello! Yes, I usually put up a round of classes and then we load a firing every couple of months or so. You don’t have to take the classes if you already have your own lusters/overglazes/decals/etc. You can just put your pots ready to be fired on that top shelf above things to be fired for glaze. We fire to cone 018. If you want to do it this month, I can put it up towards the middle or end of the month… Or next month. I usually wait until I start getting interest for it.

I just started looking into it, but if we do do one this month I will definitely buy some to have. Do you usually post on talk when those those firings are happening? I can’t make the meeting tonight sadly still haven’t made it to a committee meeting.

Ok, I put up 2 classes for the 20th & 23rd… we would probably load on the 23rd or within a couple days of that depending on kiln behavior.
