US Cutter Titan 28

I am wanting to be trained on the US Cutter Titan 28 Vinyl cutter since I haven’t used any cutters since the move. I have a couple of quick questions:

Can I use it to cut thin fabric?
How long is the machine?

Thank you to any one who can help me out with my questions! I tried to look it up on the Dallas Maker Space Wkik, but it didn’t go into dimensions at all.

I would advise against cutting fabric - there isn’t enough rigidity in the fabric to get reliable cuts, and nothing to stick it to.

A better option would be to cut it in the laser, provided it isn’t rubberized (hydrochloric acid with CSPE/CSM).

@talkers can speak more to the vinyl cutter specs.

@John_Marlow has cut fabric on laser multiple times and might have some tips

I agree. I would highly discourage cutting fabric on the Titan.

Thank you all for the advise! Which laser cutter should I use?

The vinyl cutter needs a backing film to be effective. You can use the Silhouette Cameo for pieces up to 12" x 24" as it has an adhesive mat.

RE the lasers, any will work. light power, fast speed. Air assist off (remember to turn it back on after so the next person does not set fire to their project).

Natural fibers cut cleanly. Synthetics will have a slight melt to them at the edges.

note, IIRC we only have the 12"x12" mats at DMS, but you are welcome bring your own 12"x24" mat. Nicapa is a common “generic brand” that will work with Silhouette and their 24" mats are only $25 for 3 on amazon.

I would certainly keep the air assist on. Especially if using a synthetic. I’ve cut a lot of different types of fabric on the lasers - dial in your speed and power with small cuts on the material then let it rip.

Let’s get bigger mats with the new machine :grinning:
