This is not good news.
For what itās worth the text of the bill is very very specific. What youāre reading there is just a summary.
Thanks for the added info.
Iām barely ten pages in and this has to be one of the most poorly worded AW ban bills Iāve seen in quite a whileā¦ Iām all for regulation, but this is just nonsense.
Scanning thru the list and itās clear that the authors and supporting law makers want to drive a good percentage of the firearms industry out of the civilian market.
The list targets firearms based on cosmetics which the bill describes as semi automatic assault weapons, regardless of caliber(thereās quite a bit of .22LR guns on the list), and limits magazine capacities to 10 rounds for both handguns and long arms.
It also targets handguns that have magazines outside of the grip(again cosmetic based).
Iām most concerned with the following difference from previous bans to this:
one feature versus two, and among those is an adjustable stock. Iāve known disabled people that had adjustable stocks due to their condition.
As well as the usual inclusion of things like Barrel Shrouds; ever done a lot of 5 stand with a 12ga? It gets hot, and adding a barrel shroud is necessary for some people.
And stupid items like this: Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder (which, by the way the law is written, is regardless of capacity).
āAll AR Types.ā Does that include the AR-7? (i.e. the wilderness .22). Whomever wrote this doesnāt seem to know that AR stands for Armalite Rifles and would cover everything they ever designed.
The list of āby nameā includes several destructive devices or other NFA that are already restricted (like the Street Sweeper).
The term āfolding, telescoping, or detachable
17 stockā means a stock that folds, telescopes, detaches or
18 otherwise operates to reduce the length, size, or any other
19 dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability, of a
20 firearm.
Not only does that include adjustable length, that could include the adjustable comb of match rifles
ā(46) The term āpistol gripā means a grip, a thumb12
hole stock, or any other characteristic that can function
13 as a grip.
I donāt evenā¦
I need a break from reading this stupid.
Thatās what the antiās are authors are counting on.
Thereās an Asian saying that loosely translates to āHe who flinches first loses.ā
Hereās an industry perspective:
Hereās a media perspective:
Thatās a lot of jobs not including the industries that benefit from indirect sales.
āFirearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American peopleās liberty teeth and keystone under independence ā¦ from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable ā¦ the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference ā they deserve a place of honor with all thatās good.ā

One of yāall should teach a class on different types of guns and gun accessories. I understand how frustrating it is having a conversation about gun control (or anything for that matter) when the other side doesnāt have the same information as you.
ā¦ and include a primer on basic gun laws as related to the layman and how theyāre likely to encounter them on a practical basis.
YES! essentially an intro to guns class
Or they did know and understand exactly what they wrote and how it could be used.
With regards to congress, this is not a new topic or new effort. Lobbyists and experts are typically involved in much of the writing of legislation, especially like this. Just not the lobbyists and experts 2A supporters would like to be involved. But they usually know quite well most the relevant facts, etc., and what they are writing, and how it is likely to accomplish what they (really) intend.
