Uploading files for to my member folder

Hello all from a first-time poster!

I tried using a USB stick to get my image file into the Thunder Laser computer, but it wasn’t being detected in either USB port. So I got help putting my file into my member folder. My question is: How can I put a file into my member folder from my home computer via web browser at dallasmakerspace.org?

I saw an “Upload File” “tool”, but that page was confusing as to where it’s uploading to. Is that the right place to get this done? If not, how then?

Thanks!!

You will want to use Microsoft Remote Desktop.

The (impossible-to-search) wiki has instructions on accessing the “jump server” remotely at this link.

This post has some additional information if you are using a Mac.

The key to success is sharing your local drive or desktop so that Remote Desktop can see your local files.

As far as I know, you can’t.
You can access the Member storage via RDP and the JumpServer, or via ssh. These are not well documented, to the best of my knowledge, but some information can be found on the JumpServerFAQ.

EDIT: Too slow on the post…

OK thanks @John_Marlow and @jast ! Haven’t tried it yet but the info you guys gave me looks like what I need.

When I RDP from Windows from home, I can Copy a file from my computer, then paste it in my Member folder in the RDP window. Easy Peasy.

I cannot drag and drop though.

RDP to physical.dallasmakerspace.org
username is dms\yourusername

Go to this prior post. Read Tim’s post (item 7). I think that’s what resolved the problem for me.

(Maybe you already know this, and chose not to do it this time, but I thought I’d throw it out there)

If I go the iCloud route and download my image files to the Thunder Laser PC, will my files go into a folder literally named “Downloads” – like it would on a Mac? If not, where might I find them? (Looking forward to boning up on PC navigation!)

I read about hacking vulnerabilities with RDP. Am I being overly cautious to worry about that?

Thx @Webdevel. That’s very helpful!!
