Update: website added. Christmas already? Donate ornaments to a non profit helping the community

Is anyone already in the giving mood? Just Because, inc. Is a fellow non profit that help with feeding the homeless, visiting the elderly in nursing homes, helping the elderly with special needs and many other awesome things in the dfw area. They are currently looking to have 50 Christmas ornaments donated so they can decorate for their Christmas dinner for the homeless. They have no special requests on the type of ornament so if anyone feels like making one or a couple they would greatly appreciate it. Or feel free to donate some you already own if you want, I’m just putting this out there because I think it’s for a great cause and it would be a cool thing for dms to be a part of.

I’ll look at making some dye sub ornaments. I have a couple of blanks lying around.

Well, crap…

I left a big bag of Christmas ornaments on the Member Exchange shelf last week. They’ve probably all been nabbed by now.

That’s great, also I’m not expecting to get all 50 from DMS that’s just how many they need in general

It wouldn’t be difficult to make 50 ceramic Christmas ornaments that could be painted by nursing home residents and then used to decorate if they are interested.

I’ll ask, that would be really awesome

They would be incredibly grateful for those and say “THANK YOU” for the generosity. What can I do to help make this happen?

@dryad2b - let’s coordinate and get a class or event on the calendar. I’m thinking a combination of slip cast and cut/stamped ornaments. I can make all of them myself but it might be a fun group thing. ETA that any other ideas are welcome!

I have no idea how to do those things but I’m glad to learn and help, I definitely wouldn’t want you to make them all yourself! Thank yall for stepping up and offering it is very appreciated.

I’ll show you if you like. Cut/stamped is almost exactly like making Christmas cookies with clay but it’s more fun in a group. Slip cast will take a little bit longer but there should be plenty of ornament molds now. It would be fun to get some other departments involved too if anyone else is interested. Cary does awesome things with dye sub and I wonder if laser could make paintable wood ornaments? Just throwing out ideas.

When do you need the ornaments?

Also @dianarhodes

Sometime in October, is that a possibility?

Yep, I’ll get it on the calendar and get it to you ASAP.

@Nate is there a web site for Just Because? This could be an on-going cause to support.

They have a Fb page and Instagram currently but they have a website coming soon. I thought so as well, the founder is in Farmers Branch.

Julie- Nate I’ll make some to donate. I’ll be up at DMS tomorrow and pour some. I think there are a few molds there.
