I hired someone to come out and take a look at the HP color plotter printer and had them in on Tuesday the 3rd. He got it working and looking good but when we went to print the first real image the black printhead exploded - as in literally exploded. The black cartridge and printhead is now on order and on it’s way to DMS as we speak. @AlexRhodes worked to get it networked and all that wonderful technical stuff I know very little about.
I will keep you updated on the progress of the repairs. If the printhead works it will be a beautiful thing and you guys can start printing huge beautiful posters (for a small reasonable fee).
If not it’s a minimum of a $500 repair that needs to happen so let’s all hope for the printhead to be the answer. I’m willing to put in the funds to get this guy working because it’s a valuable tool for our members to be able to have. But, as anything I don’t want to eat a ton of repair costs.

Did he mention why he thought it might have exploded? I don’t believe I ever saw or heard of that happening.
For what ever it counts, my vote would be to spend the money to repair if needed. It would be nice to use for people to produce posters describing their work for the open house to be hung in committee areas. For instance, I am thinking of creating a poster for the dulcimer sticks to hang in wood shop along with a couple of examples (If the chair approves) for the open house.

Thanks for sorting that out!
He thinks it was simply because the cartridge was old and un used for so long. Hopefully a new cartridge is all it takes.

Yes, we will do the repair. I didn’t mean I’m not willing to spend the money - it’s a 5K tool apparently - so it’s not something we will just cast aside besides that I just think most people will find it very useful for all sorts of things. Possibly equal use to the photo printer.
I was just trying to get everyone to think positive thoughts on this black cartridge/printhead.
He said all of them were old (sans the one we just replaced) and apparently it happens…It was a mess.
The next step in repair is to replace the carriage assembly $350 plus $250 in labor (if the black printhead isn’t the answer mind you).

I’m thinking something like the project posters you’ll find next to labs at universities. I go into buildings just to see what they’re doing (read posters)

This is the kind of plotter that Banksy uses to make his stencils. Examples here

I didn’t realize Banksy was such an open book with his/her media. We are in good company!
I will keep you posted on it’s progress.

There was a video on Netflix a couple years ago that showed someone (supposedly NOT Banksy) printing stencils at Kinkos with a plotter like ours, then cutting them out. The person was allegedly NOT Banksy, but might have been, but they were not saying for sure. His identity remains unknown.
Shepard Fairy. We have several of his murals (commissioned, not graffiti)
here in Dallas. Mostly in Oak Cliff and Design District.
