Turning glass vase into lamp cover

Not sure if this is possible… but figured some smart DMS member would definitely know the answer!!

After spending forever looking for the perfect replacement covers for some old pendant lights, I finally gave up and thought about doing a DIY project.

Essentially… I want to just drill (or melt?) a hole at the bottom of this glass vase so I can slip it onto the existing pendant and not have to replace the whole thing!

Is it possible? If so, could someone explain/show me how?

Can you, yes… but I personally wouldn’t recommend it.

You would need a glass cutting hole saw the size of your existing opening. Keep it lubed, go slow and do not add pressure. Let the tool do all the work.

That being said, there will be minor stress fractures at the hole. Time/weight/heat can cause it to shatter above your head.

Really would suggest continuing to hunt for a piece of glass already made for this.

Yes, and we have the drills to do it. I can show you how.
You will need a container that is deep enough to fill with enough water to cover the piece. You will also need styrofoam to put behind your cut so that you don’t get chips on the edges.
