Transparent material

I need to print a transparent water container if I cannot find a suitable one on the market. Anyone knows what kind of transparent material can be printed on the PolyPrinters?

What kins of container do you need?

A small (120 - 150 ml) one to hold water.

Would be helpful to know what you need rather than solution, given the wording of your request. Very little hasn’t been done before.

I’m not good with sizes – got an average in inches? Some of the smaller “cosmetic” jars are still left from a drop-off/donation, and they might suit your purpose. (New, never used)

My question is does anyone know what kind of transparent material can be used for 3D printing. Leave the size and purpose out.

There is transparent ABS filament that you can buy from Gizmodorks. I bought a spool but in my experience it gives a milky white finish. If you are looking for a very clear look like glass, you will be better off visiting Reynolds Advanced Materials and asking for a casting material that will be transparent.

Thanks for the info.

This video helps

Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re in the wrong forum buddy lol.

Ask a bunch of creative maker types a question and you’re going to have to give your life story to them to get the answers. It’s how we think. I could tell you they make transparent ABS, but that would be irresponsible if I knew you were going to use it in contact with potable water for instance.

You might want to consider transparent resin with resin printing. If you buy the resin and vat for the elagoo mars, you can print it mostly transparent.

Here’s an example of some miniatures I’ve printed. If you clear coat it, then it’s even more transparent. But if this is liquid you will be drinking, I would not recommend using resin printing, since it’s pretty toxic even after curing.

I guess you would use whatever they use in the video.

And even then we’ll recommend a dozen things you should make INSTEAD of what you want. :joy:

4-5 ounces in Imperial. so like a large espresso cup.

If you need it to be food safe then Clear PETG is the way to go. Otherwise, as Malcolm stated, a transparent ABS would work fine as well.

Edit- Just to fill the gambit of material choices, Inland makes a good transparent “Natural” PLA that you can get at Microcenter.

Except that PLA is somewhat hydrophilic (water loving) and will break down in water.

Have you considered making your container from lasercut acrylic instead and then supergluing it together? Unless you’ve got psychotic geometry, that should give you an aesthetically pleasing result with extraordinary strength.

That’s a good idea. Thanks

Another option, that will probably get you super clear containers. Would be to make a mold, and then cast it using crystal clear epoxy. Might be a bit expensive though

3D print your male form, and then thermoform some clear polycarbonate/PET/or acrylic over it and cutoff the excess.

Note that if you print with a clear resin material on a resin printer (instead of thermoforming it) the water you put into could turn toxic.

Wow, these look really nice.
