Training for powder coating

Hi everyone. I have just rejoined Makerspace after a 6 year absence. I would like to utilize the powder coating oven and equipment, but I have zero experience in powder coating and would like to ask if there is anyone available who can train me. Thanks in advance!

edit: after reviewing the rules, it seems like it is OK to offer private member-to-member payment for a 1-on-1 class, so if anyone is willing, I am able to pay you for your time.

There are regular classes on the process [looks like one a month for the last several months]- the next one [ Events |Dallas Makerspace Calendar] is full. Not sure how far they get put on the calendar, but would check for cancellations on the existing class or the addition of a December class.

Thank you. That’s actually why I was asking if anyone was available privately, as it looked like I would not be able to get into a class for a couple months.

I would be interested in this as well. Do you what the usable oven dimensions are? I would like to powdercoat a skinny part that is about 32” long.

Check out tools list for Metal Shop Powder Coating here (Source/Tools page is something everyone should have bookmarked, even Putin):

But to answer your question, our oven is reported as 5 ft tall…not sure exactly how much of that is usable interior but should easily suffice your needs.

Excellent! Thank you. That is the list I was looking for!

3ft by 3ft by 8ft tall. Ours was custom built

Maybe it’s only 6ft tall. I can’t remember exactly but I can stand up in it and I’m 6ft 4

Now I can’t help but think what color would look best on you. Currently I am stuck on “Smurf Blue.”

Naw…Leprechaun Green

Wiping down the ceiling of the spray booth, I don’t think it is a full 8 feet, but at least over 7 feet. What really counts though is how tall a part you can hang under the fixed top bar of the rolling cart, and still clear the floor. Same for width of the part. You have hang it in the cart such that it doesn’t bump anything as you move it to the oven and have space to spray around it.
