Training for automotive

I am hoping to join. I think training is needed before access to auto shop granted.

I was wondering when that could be scheduled.

I don’t see it on the calendar.

Hi Conor,

the only item in automotive that requires training is the Lift; classes aren’t regular, but just posting here lets instructors know that someone needs a session. Additionally the Motorsports group tends to teach people at their meetings (@dallasmagna @Bizwacky). The class is $5 paid to the space at the class (cash into the drop box or paypal)

I may be able to get a class in towards the end of this week if you’re game (thursday/friday evening).

Sure. Sounds good. Friday probably best if you have something available.

If you’re wondering what I am interested in working on see below.
Its a 1983 Austin Mini (A real mini, not a BMW mini), that has been chopped in 3 pieces, and then the middle bit removed. Roof obviously removed too. It is now 7’ long.
In UKI we call it a Mini Shortie

It runs OK but the cylinder pressure is low. Probably burnt valves. Maybe Rings.
Also there is a little bit of oil coming out of it when parked. That needs researched and worked out.
(I’m well aware of how to put a piece of cardboard down for such things!)

All in all a fun little project to mess with on the weekends and occasional evening.

I joined the maker space this evening.
I am very much looking forward to it.

I was wondering how I get a pass to gain entry?

At the moment, someone has to meet you to get you an access fob and the waiver signed. Sometimes if you just ring the bell someone will open the doors and help with it, but this is not guaranteed.

Can do it the same time as we find for the lift class, or you can try and find someone that can do sooner.

Open tours restart in a couple weeks, and this is generally when new members got setup historically until Covid threw all that out the window

Sorry I missed this.

I’ve been sick with a stomach bug for a few days.

I’ll stop in today and see if anyone can get me a fob.

Similar situation here (totally different project car through). Trying to become a member and hoping to get access to use the lift today or tomorrow. Can somebody help out with this or is it too short notice? Tia

Too short notice for me. @Team_Motorsports may be able to catch you at their next meeting. IIRC Thursdays
