Hi, I had signed up for today’s 9:00 am wood shop 101 class and just found out it was canceled 30 minutes ago. Do I have to take the 101 class before the 102 class? I have take both these classes before I can work in the wood shop, right?
Since you were able to sign up for the 102 class without having completed the 101 class - 101 is not a prerequisite for 102.
(Our calendar system isn’t very sophisticated. It doesn’t considered being registered for 101 to meet the prerequisite for any classes that require 101 - therefore my logic that 101 wasn’t required. )
Once you complete 102 you will be able to use any tools taught in 102 (drills, bandsaws, and sanders), but you will not be allowed to use any tools taught in 101 (table saws, miter saw, planer, jointer).
I’m sure this is less than convenient, but I see Woodshop Basics offered again Thursday morning at 9:00.
I’m actually not signed up for 102, I wasn’t going to be able to take both classes in one day, but since 101 was canceled, I thought I would see if I could be a standby for the 102 class if it was allowed.
In theory stand-by’s are allowed (by this instructor) but if everyone shows up you won’t be admitted.
There is another 102 class offered on 7/17.

I’d sign up for that one. (It’s free). If it lets you sign up, then 101 isn’t required. (It doesn’t appear to be required from the write-up). If you get into today’s class as a standby, then please be diligent and cancel your reservation in the 7/17 class. Otherwise if you don’t get in today, then you have a guaranteed spot.
I was able to sign up for it, thank you!
