O Makerspace, I seek your guidance.
I have a jewelry chest that needs a new lid, and it seems easier to fabricate a new one from scratch than try to use the old one, so I need to match the finish. Any idea where should I start? Can I use different wood or should I stick to what it was originally made of? Also related, how do I find out what it’s made of?
Those are difficult problems to solve. Do you know anything about the provenance or manufacturer of the chest?
I’ll be at the DMS tonight to finally get certified for woodshop access. If you are around after 8, I could help you take a look. I’m hardly an expert at wood identification, but I know my way around woodshops and materials, so I might be able to offer some suggestions and solutions.
