Timeline on replacing the current machines?

Let’s face it, the current 3 machines are well past the point of diminishing returns on uptime vs required maintenance/repair volunteer hours.

Can we start the ball rolling on replacing the existing machines, and selling off the existing ones to recoup some of the $ from them?

If we want to look at newer/different models, the Graphics Pro Expo will be at the Irving Convention Center in early March, and they always have multiple vendors for lasers there.

Any idea when Laser would move into their “post-Expansion” digs? Perhaps that might influence the timing …

While I don’t use the lasers, they are probably the only asset at DMS that over the years has paid for their maintenance and probably a good portion of their replacement cost.

It would be interesting to know how much money they have brought in, It is NOT a small amount.

These machines could be sold for some residual amount to offset the new acquisitions. For a home user, these have a lot of life in them.

I wouldn’t wait on that as part of the timeline. Members just want uptime. Currently it seems there is usually only 1 machine up at “normal” function, with the other two at reduced or non working status. Big Thunder is currently always at reduced function since a large part of the bed area is no longer useable.

There should be no real difference between moving in a newly delivered machine vs one already on site for the renovated location.

Exactly. One final “fix it/cleaning” pass and then sell them on to recover some money back.

Please note this is NOT a dig at our laser volunteers who have the almost impossible task of keeping the lasers running. It’s meant to help both improve the uptime on the hardware, and at the same time reduce the hours needed to maintain the lasers since they’ll be new with no recurring issues.

Exactly, things wear out.

hope not to derail this but when was the last laser committee meeting?
