Time to order Epoxy Table Top Resin soon

I will be ordering more ProMarine Crystal Clear Bar Table Top epoxy resin in the next week or so.

This material: https://promarinesupplies.com/products/crystal-clear-bar-table-top-epoxy-resin-coating-for-wood-tabletop

I will order at least 6 gallons (it comes in gallon bottles, 1 resin + 1 hardener, so 2 gallons is a minimum order package size) ProMarine has a volume incentive program as you can see on the website. At 6 gallons, the average delivered price is just under $50/gallon. The more ordered at a time, the lower the price. If we combined needs and could order as many as 20 gallons, the delivered price is $41.85 per gallon (2 gallon minimum, however, you could split with someone else if desired, you’ll just need to come up with a separate set of bottles.) Obviously your price will be less than $100 per pair of gallons and just how much less depends on volume.

I use this resin for all my epoxy tables. I pour 1/8"-1/4" layers at a time and can pour multiple layers in a day by watching the temperature and letting the heat kick peak before making the next pour. This is a recent example that had deep pockets of resin: Dallas Makerspace Show & Tell - May 2019 - #95 by bertberaht

PM if you want to join in on my next order. Payment up front so I am not out of pocket (old retired guy!) Will deliver to you at DMS or make other reasonable arrangements. Delivery is quick … typically a few days.

Had a question on shelf life. Here’s the answer I received from ProMarine:

We recommend using within 6 months once opened. Store away from direct light at room temperature.
If unopened and stored in the same manner we recommend use within 1 year.

Should let them know to update their data sheet

“When stored separately, epoxy & hardener have long shelf lives – store in a cool dry area in tightly sealed containers”

One person’s long is apparently 12 months, what can I say?
Maybe it’s like expiration dates on drugs … more times than not the date is related to how long it was tested and not how long it actually stays potent. Anyway, I never have any epoxy get that old before it’s time to order again!

The expiration mode is typically just that one part of the resin starts to yellow a bit. If anybody has any expired resin that they don’t want I’ll definitely take it because I tint my resin for my art anyway so you can’t tell its yellowed a bit.

I would be interested in an order of their Marine Epoxy. If they allow you to mix and match products to get bulk numbers then, Iet me know…

I would too. I get my SS check next Wednesday. LOL. I would like to get 2 gallons. I am fixing to start making these tables too. Thanks for being there for us.

I love Texans: A guy named Jeff Bob uses “fixing to” just like the folks I grew up with!

As of the moment, we are at 12 gallons so maximum price will be less than $84 for a pair of gallons.
(Must order in pairs since the two parts both come in gallon jugs.)

Just make sure you do not tump over your epoxy.

I’ve been a Texan my whole life and my favorite is the plural of Y’all … All Y’all.

So I’ve never made anything with large amount of poured resin. My parents want my help making two tabletops. One 20x60, the other 20x36. They will have edges and have tiles placed inside. This looks like a good choice for resin to fill the space within the wood and cover the tiles. I’m trying to figure out how much they’d need to buy. Is the coverage estimate on the product page fairly accurate? They don’t need the resin to be too think on top of the tiles (a mix, but mostly the standard 4x4 white tiles) , just enough for a level surface.

A bit like this:

General rule of thumb, you want the finish pour to be 1/8" thick so it can flow out and self-level. I would recommend you plan for 6 oz per square foot at a minimum. The website appears to be more like 12 oz/sqft. It’s better to have excess than not enough … except for that paying for it thing!

Since it comes in gallon jugs, you’ll be buying 2 gallons and have enough left to sell or share.

:+1: That’s basically what I was thinking but wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something. I think the actual interior is a bit smaller anyway so based on all that 2 gallons seems plenty. 1/8 was the depth I was looking at, can’t see any reason to go with a thicker surface.

Thanks!

Ok I’m also in for 2 gallons (1 of each)

Do you know yet when exactly you will be placing the order?

I plan to order this week, probably Friday. Once order volume get price down to $42/gal, more is just pennies delta. So anybody wanting in on this one … speak up! I typically order about once every 4-6 weeks.
