Threading on the Colchester?

I have taken the Metal Lathe basics class, but it didn’t go as far as threading. I don’t happen to have a specific need right now, but I wondered if someone would be willing to do a future class/demo on that.

Any (non-miniature) thread would work for the purposes of learning.

Ditto. A class on that would be great. i do have a specific project in mind. In my specific case it would be a desire to do (metric) threading on both the exterior and interior of a (2" diameter) tube assembly.

We do not have the tooling for metric threading on the Colchester

threading is definitely a more intermediate pursuit. There are a couple of specific things that need to be set up and the right bit is needed, I’ve done it on a Jet lathe but not the Colchester. I’ll have to investigate it sometime when I get the chance. If you’re not diligent you’ll end up running the tool into the chuck (i.e. CRASH!).
fortunately, there are [some] good videos online.
cheers!

I think once we get the “new lathe” up and running, thread cutting will be more successful.

@wandrson have you or do you know of anyone who’s cut threads on the Colchester?

Yes, I have. We have limited range of threads that can be cut on that machine.

I’ve cut threads as well. Seems to work fine.
