Come out to Dallas Makerspace on Saturday and experiment with Glass Mosaics! We will be doing a glass-on-glass project by covering a 3" glass votive holder with glass and beads. You can also bring an object of your own if you have another preference and feel free to bring any other notions you might want to use. The class will cover different objects that can be used as well as glue and grouting options. You will leave the class with a good start on a beautiful votive holder and can take home what you need to finish the project! If you have prior experience, it would be great if you can make it as well to share your expertise and experiences! You can find the class on the Events calendar. It is from 2-4 pm on Saturday, January 27th in the Purple Room. Hope to see you there!!!
I’m posting a link in fb Creative Arts too since it’d appeal.
QUESTION
So I have no desire for a candle holder (three knucklehead cats vs open flame? Ha.) and don’t really need another decorative thingymabob, but a flimsy excuse for containment object? Sure
I like the thing above, what looks like a stand that’s lighting the container from below, kinda carved, etc? My first impulse is yet another flimsy excuse for a Makery project…but for lazy convenience, is this type of thing easily available? (all I really need is a nudge at this point, sigh)
YES! It would take more than the class time most likely, but you can take some glass and beads with you along with some grout and the glue, which is really all you need.
As far as finding an object to mosaic, places like Target, Big Lots and the dollar stores are littered with funky objects. That particular vase is plastic and is red. I was experimenting thinking a colored object may not work out right, but it is actually turning out kind of cool! So, basically, any colored or glass object that lets the light through is ideal. If you do not care about the light shining through (the Glass on Glass component), you can really mosaic anything. If you find me on facebook and then Pinterest, there are a whole ton of things you could go crazy with!!! Shoot, here someone even mosaic’ed a chair!!! I really hope you make the class. It’s fun to see people who like to think outside the box and what they come up with! You could even do a piece of pottery! I would love to see that!! The possibilities are really endless.
I chose to demonstrate with glass on glass as there are some additional hurdles that i’ve encountered that are worth sharing experiences with and solutions as well as recieving feedback on other peoples’ experiences/suggestions!

WoW!!! I just looked at the event and figured out how to see if anyone had signed up…i am so overwhelmed and excited about the awesome response!!!
The class shows 25 people signed up so far!!! I’m super stoked :-D!!! i actually only have 25 votive holders that can go to the first 25 people that arrive, so please feel free to bring other objects if you have something you want to mosaic!! I can’t wait to meet all of you :)!
I’m so glad!!! One girl from the class suggested doing a stepping stone next. I thought that was a great idea, so i told her we could! I’m going to do votives again too and format the class a little different so that people will have time to complete the project. Which do you think your wife and daughter would like to do? I think maybe Saturday, 2/24 from 11-2pm with a break for lunch. There is another girl that will be teaching lampworking this month too (making cool beads), stay tuned!! Fun stuff at DMS :-D!!
