Are you old enough to remember the Subaru “Brat” pickup trucks of the late 1970s / early 1980s? Subaru skirted the “chicken tax” by installing reverse facing bucket seats in the bed. (Try that option in today’s world).

Absolutely! Did not know that was why, at the time. Ford is, i think still, but definitely when introduced in 2015, shipping the Transit full-size vans into the country with back row seats, then stripping them out for their fleet sales of working vans (with just the front seats) for the same reason. Also when selling to conversion companies who want a bare van shell.
Talk about coming home to roost!

Same with Ford’s Transit Connect - the smaller vans. They were shipped from Europe or Turkey to the port of Baltimore to be gutted from passenger use back to utilty use.

One might ask why GM /Chevy vans are not 25% lower in cost than a comparable Transit van or …Sprinter van…
