This is the thread we look at important makers around the world and what they do

So I felt this would be an interesting place to put things that are happening around the world. Lots of stuff is happening and it’s interesting to sir the pot and have everyone post what they think is cool.

First up: One of our own(ish) Darcy Neal @Darcy_Neal
Website: http://darcyneal.com
Writeup about her work: http://www.dallasobserver.com/music/dentons-darcy-neal-has-gadgets-and-gizmos-aplenty-7066473
Collaborative Business: http://www.ladybrainstudios.com @Haley_Moore and Darcy work
Darcy plays music, makes art, has painted dinosaurs, move to Portland, does workshops, fixes her pants, makes instruments, plays instruments, hacks electronics, left a work for all of us to enjoy at DMS, honestly I’m not sure I’m the best person to describe everything she’s done - because the more I scratch the more prolific it seems she is.

Darcy if you’re reading this get a patreon going https://www.patreon.com - I would support you.

Second on the list:

Chad Leaman and Harry Lew
Website: Makersmakingchange.com

So this is something I’m personally interested in - open source adaptive technology for the disabled. He (and his partners) create and allow for adaptation of tools to help others. He just got funded by google for his lip sync tool : http://www.makersmakingchange.com/lipsync
He’s been organizing events to help build units in mass to give them away (or make available at a low cost) http://www.makersmakingchange.com/event/burnaby-school-district-make-a-thon/
This is stuff that really is just fantastic for me to see. I’m bitter and this makes me feel empowered as to what people can do to better the lives around them…ya, ya you make your life better everyday this is altruistic and beautiful. I’m sure the google funds go far to help him do some outreach (the banner in the back tells me that the google funds also need pictures to support the funding)

Oh my! Thank you! The DMS was so incredibly important in my journey. It allowed me to explore new mediums, learn so many incredible new skills, start a production studio and ultimately helped me to land the job that I have now, working for 4MS company in Portland, OR. Its been difficult not having the DMS just a drive away, but it definitely ensures I will return for visits whenever I can

Ok I’ve let this slide
Todays artist of delight is Iris Van Herpen

Digital
Damn fine work

Now many of you might not be into the world of fashion but you need to respect the developments pushing the lines of personal interaction with a form, artistry, craftsmanship, and digital bliss that this guy is presenting for everyone. So it’s not “normal” it’s not supposed to be. Some of the textiles in the works are 3D printed - some laser cut just truly amazing stuff. I personally would like to see @danielle_burbidge model something like this in her upcoming wedding. PS this model isn’t nude - it’s on flesh toned fabric to simulate lightness (pervs) haha

Last year I met a maker that was experimenting with printing directly on fabric - it was really fantastic. He had an article in Make as well if you’re interested google it and come back with your results.
