Really??? Is it too much to ask that you leave equipment the way you found it and put tools back in their place?? (6AM this morning)
I already have some pics I was in process of sending to @Team_Woodshop. This is a repeat offender…
If you got video of multiple offenses- drop theban hammer
General workshop work table overflow?
There was also a large glue up taking up the sanding table last night.
That’s not cool either. Some of the work surface and space constraints will be addressed/mitigated when wood shop expands into south side of current workshop area in next several months, but commandeering work area set aside or assigned for specific uses and tasks for something else is generally not OK.
How about a good talking to first. People are all to eager to drop the ban hammer first.
Not so. Banning is far and few between from what I have seen. But being a repeat offender should receive no quarter.
Most of us don’t go straight to banning; most first time issues (like this, if it were their first time rather than just one of many) just need a nudge in the right direction.
Repeat offenders have no mercy.
In my time as chair (since June) I’ve kicked about 5 or so people out of the room. Most of those I just had leave until they could cool their heads; only one got a proper ban for willfully refusing to fix a massive safety issue endangering others after being warned directly (little over a month ban). The others were typically things like refusing to put on safety glasses after being reminded multiple times (not putting them on their foreheads and forgetting, but outright refusing to wear them). Occasionally there is also someone that is working completely oblivious to their surroundings and creating a hazard. I usually just ask them to get some rest and come back the next day.
I have, however, had people replace things / show up to a committee meeting for volunteering due to something against the rules they did; most of them learn from the experience, but the parts or tools still had to be replaced. These usually happen when there is an explicit sign / training they ignored (aluminum on the grinders) or it was negligent (holding a bundle of steel round stock by hand in a chop saw rather than chucking it and shattering a few blades)
