If you been in Dallas for a long time you probably remember KZEW radio. My friend George Gimarc is relaunching The Zoo today online.

Now if he could only bring back KDGE.

This brings back memories⌠I grew up in Commerce and the first thing you had to do when you got a car was go to the car stereo emporium (Wal-Mart) and get a Pioneer Supertuner car stereo. We were just on the fringe of being able to pick up KZEW and Q102 and most factory radios wouldnât cut it. Even with Supertuner youâd drop the signal before you got to CooperâŚ
Works great on mobile.
Is he also selling car window stickers with the âelephantâ logo, like I had on the back of my '74 Pinto?
Pioneer Supertuner, havenât heard that in a while. Brings back memories of my early 80âs college days working in a stereo repair shop.
We all loved to work on the Pioneer units with auto-reverse cassette mechanism because the cassette mechanism was so easy to remove:
Most other brands involved at least unsoldering lots of wires and many darn near required disassembling the whole unit, which was a lot of work to just replace a broken drive belt. As an engineering student that hands-on exposure to the Pioneer units gave me a true understanding of âdesign for servicibilityâ .
I grew up over 300 miles away. The lucky kids lived in households which had cable TV; they could hook the cable to their receiver and listen to The Zoo. The rest of us had to settle for our local stations, one Top 40 and one AOR.
Can any of you confirm or dispel this story? When John Lennon was shot, The Zoo broke into programming with the news, then resumed by playing Happiness is a Warm Gun.
