The EPA is attempting to ban ecu & engine modifications

Here is the jalopnik article on the proposed legislation.

But basically,
“The EPA wants to make clear that an exemption for turning nonroad vehicles (and engines) into competitive vehicles does not apply to your street car, even if it’s a track-only car.”

So not only will it be illegal to mod your street car’s engine and ECU, it will restrict track cars as well.

So here is the petition to stop the proposal…

Is there a petition to disband the EPA altogether?
Seriously, thanks for posting up. It’s good to know when the fed is asserting even more power over our daily lives…

You’re a little late to the party. Some (most? all?) ECU modifications are very likely already illegal because of the DMCA.

That didn’t include engine modifications and was never really enforceable, additionally the 2015 exemptions included an exemption for motor vehicle control systems.
The EPA is known for zealously enforcing its standards against individuals and private companies but not itself. Remember what the EPA did to the animas river?

At best we would see the aftermarket dry up and new state inspection standards that would fail modded vehicles.
At worst tuners and modders could face prison time.
